Advances and Challenges in Endoscopy Training

Endoscopy requires a unique skillset that incorporates fine motor movement, meticulous hand-visual coordination, and good understanding of endoscopic mechanics. Learning endoscopy necessitates not only procedural volume, but also a high-quality training. Standardizing endoscopy training is a challenging endeavor for both trainees and trainers alike. Simulation-based training, competence-based evaluation tools, and virtual coaching are among the recent advances that aim to optimize the way endoscopy is taught. With emerging complex endoscopic procedures and Covid-19 pandemic continuing to ravage the world, endoscopy training is even more challenging than ever.
In this ECE meeting, we will dive into this important aspect of our medical education, have presentations about Simulation-based mastery learning, how to select endoscopist for advanced endoscopy, and share the training tips from master endoscopists globally, followed by a panel discussion on how we should best optimize and standardize endoscopy training for our future generations of gastroenterologists.
