Regional Policy Framework for Omics Data Privacy and Security in the Asia-Pacific
The rapid advancement of omics technologies including encompassing genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics has transformed biomedical research and precision healthcare across the Asia-Pacific. However, these developments bring significant challenges in safeguarding sensitive biological data, as existing privacy frameworks are often fragmented and not specifically designed for omics-related risks. This session aims to explore the development of a regional policy framework for omics data privacy and security, fostering collaboration among policymakers, researchers, and technologists. Through a multidisciplinary discussion, the session will examine current data protection mechanisms, identify legal, technical, and ethical gaps, and propose strategies for harmonized governance. The outcome will contribute to a white paper outlining policy recommendations and a roadmap for secure, ethical, and interoperable omics data management in the Asia-Pacific regionConnection Method
