Topics

There are few training centers around the world in which an endoscopist can be trained in the Early Gastrointestinal Cancer diagnose and treatment. Gastrointestinal cancer prevention and timely diagnosis is a public health priority. Overall the diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancer in Latin America occurs at an advanced stage. Because the prognosis depends on the stage at diagnosis the survival is poor especially in Latin America. Patients diagnosed in an early stage of esophageal, stomach or intestinal cancer present an excellent prognosis, with a five-year survival rate greater than 90%. At this stage of Latin-American experience, the diagnose and treatment of early GI lesions has initiated with experienced endoscopists in endoscopy centers. In this Latin Endoscopy Teleconference we will discuss the advances in teaching Early Gastrointestinal Cancer diagnose and treatment in Latin America.
