Fontan Operation

Advances in diagnostic devices and the improvement of surgical techniques allowed pediatric cardiologists to make an accurate diagnosis in an early life of children with complex congenital heart disease such as univentricular heart (UVH) and also cardiac surgeons to save their lives, Even in developing countries, there will be an increasing number of those children who have been properly diagnosed as having UVH and referred to medical professionals for saving their lives. Consequently, candidates for Fontan operation have increased. Thus it is important to talk and discuss issues about Fontan operation in this opportunity as a series of talks in the teleconference between RSJHK and KCMC, In this time we like to discuss in the order of retrograde fashion, as Fontan to Bidirectional Glenn and finally to primary palliation in those three days. Actually, there must be some knacks and pitfalls to obtain good candidates for Fontan in children with UVH which is quite fragile and vulnerable to any overloads.
